India Launches Rs 62,500-Crore Mobile Production Scheme for Brands

India has started a large program to encourage companies to make mobile phones in the country.

The program is worth Rs 62,500 crore.

It officially starts on April 1, 2026, and will run through FY31.

Large companies that meet sales requirements can receive production-linked incentives.

Some electronics manufacturing firms with Indian ownership can also qualify under a separate threshold.

Existing brands must increase their sales by specified amounts each year.

New brands must first reach Rs 10,000 crore in annual sales in India.

The government is also speaking with three Indian companies about creating a local phone brand.

One report gives incentive rates of 2.75%, 2.5% and 2.25%, while another describes the range as 2.5% to 5%.
