Vietnam pitches tech-led growth and higher-value US partnership

Vietnam wants its economic relationship with the United States to become more advanced and balanced.

It does not want to rely only on factories that use large amounts of labour.

The country is seeking investment in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy and other technologies.

Vietnam also wants to train more workers for these industries.

US companies could provide money, technology and expertise for energy and infrastructure projects.

Vietnam plans for digital activities to make up 30 per cent of its economy by 2030.

It also wants renewable energy to become a much larger part of its power system.

The country says manufacturing and innovation can grow together.

Vietnam hopes these partnerships will bring technology, supply chains and long-term value, not just capital.
