BJP Takes Over Durga Puja Committees in West Bengal
In Kolkata, the biggest Hindu festival, Durga Puja, is being prepared for next month.
After the BJP won the state elections, many committee leaders who used to be from the TMC party are now being replaced by BJP members.
For example, a BJP MLA named Sourav Sikdar is now in charge of one of the big puja groups.
The BJP president says he won’t run the committees himself, but he still attends the opening ceremony.
Organisers say the festival will stay the same, with the same traditions and excitement, no matter which party is in power.
BJP leaders replace TMC officials in key Durga Puja committees across Kolkata.
Suruchi Sangha and Sreebhumi Sporting Club now led by BJP MLA Sourav Sikdar and Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya declines to head committees, citing festivals as people’s initiatives.
Several committees, including Kendua Shanti Sangha and Baranagar Lowland Sarbajanin, appoint BJP MLAs Sarbari Mukherjee and Sajal Ghosh.
Organisers emphasize that the festival will continue with the same enthusiasm and traditions despite political changes.
