BMC Plans Steel Nets Along Vakola River to Curb Dumping

BMC Plans Steel Nets Along Vakola River to Curb Dumping

Mumbai’s civic body wants to put tall steel nets beside the Vakola River.

The nets are meant to stop people from throwing rubbish into the water.

The river near the Dnyaneshwar slum settlement has become heavily polluted.

Floating garbage has also been blocking the waterway.

The project is expected to cost ₹1.79 crore.

The plan needs approval from the BMC Standing Committee.

The BMC says similar nets worked at two other nullahs.

The project also aims to stop large items such as sofas, cupboards and furniture from being dumped.
