Record 230 migrants cross English Channel in single small boat

Two hundred thirty people traveled together in one small rubber boat across the sea between France and Britain.

That is a new record — more people in a single boat than ever before.

More than 20 of the people on the boat were children.

The boat was only about 15 metres long.

French rescue workers watched the boat and guided it safely to British waters.

Last week, another boat with more than 150 people tipped over because its engine caught fire.

The government says bad people called smugglers make money by sending migrants on these dangerous trips.

The UK is trying to stop these boats and says fewer people have arrived this year than last year.

But the number of people crossing has gone up again in the last few weeks.

Leaders say it is shocking and sad to see babies put onto such unsafe boats.
