Ornaments Stolen from 90-Year-Old Kali Temple in Behala
Imagine a very old and special statue of a goddess named Kali in a family's private temple.
This temple has been around for 90 years!
Someone broke into the temple very early one morning.
They used a long stick and a crowbar to reach the goddess and take her jewelry, like necklaces and a crown.
Sadly, they also damaged the statue while doing this.
The family discovered the theft when they came to give the goddess her food later that day.
There were no cameras inside the temple, but police are looking at cameras from nearby places to find out who did it.
This isn't the first time something like this happened, as there was another theft many years ago, but the statue wasn't hurt then.
Ornaments, including necklaces, bangles, and a crown, were stolen from a 90-year-old family Kali temple in Behala's Sarsuna.
The alleged theft occurred early Thursday morning, with the discovery made by family members later that afternoon.
A narrow gap, part of a family tradition for ventilation, was used to access the sanctum sanctorum and remove the ornaments.
Tools such as a fruit-plucking pole and a crowbar were found at the scene, and the idol was damaged in the process.
While the temple lacks CCTV, police are reviewing neighborhood footage to identify the suspect(s); a similar theft occurred in 1998.
