New York, New Jersey Proclaim August 15 'India Independence Day'

India has a special holiday called Independence Day on August 15, the day it became a free country long ago.

This year, India marks 80 years of freedom, so the day is extra special.

Two American states, New York and New Jersey, wanted to celebrate it too.

Their governors made official announcements calling August 15 'India Independence Day.'

The announcements thank the many Indian-American people who live and work in those states.

They also remember India's fight for freedom from British rule and its commitment to democracy.

The leaders said the United States and India share important values like freedom and self-determination.

Massachusetts and the city of Boston made similar announcements this month.

Indian-American families will celebrate with parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes.

It is a friendly way for the two countries to honour each other.
