FMD Confirmed as Cause of Death for Deer at Pune Zoo
Some deer at a zoo in Pune got sick and died.
Tests showed they had Foot and Mouth Disease, a contagious illness.
Experts looked at samples and confirmed the disease as the main reason.
Because of the monsoon season the animal's immune system weakened.
The zoo is working to prevent more animals from getting sick, and the situation is under control.
Local authorities are also advising people to check their cows and other animals for another disease called lumpy skin disease.
Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) was confirmed as the cause of death for 16 spotted deer.
The deaths occurred at the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Pune.
Biological samples were sent to multiple labs, including ICAR-NIFMD.
An expert committee concluded FMD was the primary cause based on lab reports.
An advisory was issued to cattle owners to check for lumpy skin disease.
