Maratha Leader Threatens Shutdown Over Murder Probe Delay
A leader named Manoj Jarange is upset because the government is taking too long to solve the murder of a village leader named Santosh Deshmukh.
The murder happened last year in Beed, Maharashtra.
Manoj Jarange visited Deshmukh's family on the anniversary of the murder and said that if the people who did it are not punished, he will call for a shutdown in Beed and maybe even the whole state.
The chief minister had promised that the murderers would be given the death penalty within a year, but Manoj Jarange says it seems like the investigation is being delayed.
One of the people accused of the murder is still missing.
The murder is believed to be related to a dispute about extorting money from a wind power company.
Maratha leader Manoj Jarange accuses the Maharashtra government of delaying the investigation into the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.
Jarange threatened to shut down Beed district and potentially the entire state if the accused are not punished.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had assured the Deshmukh family that the accused would be sentenced to death within a year.
One of the accused, Krishna Andhale, remains absconding.
The murder is linked to an extortion dispute involving a wind power firm in Beed.
