Kerala Plans to Reconstitute State Waqf Board Soon

The Kerala government wants to replace the state’s Waqf Board.

Officials say some current members may not meet the rules for serving on it.

The government may soon issue an official notification.

The current board has nine members and normally has a five-year term.

It was formed on February 4, and K S Hamza became its chairman in March.

The government says the board should be reorganized using the required procedure.

A changed law says the board should have 11 members.

Two of those members should be non-Muslims, after considering a Supreme Court decision.
