US Employers Add 162,000 Jobs As Unemployment Holds

Employers in the United States added 162,000 jobs in August.

The unemployment rate stayed at 4.1 percent.

This means the share of people looking for work did not change.

Another measure looks at people who have stopped searching and those working part time because they want full-time jobs.

That broader measure fell to 7.7 percent.

It reached its lowest level in more than a year.

Diane Swonk, an economist at KPMG, called the report “incredible.”

Overall, the figures showed improvement in several parts of the job market.
