Noel Tata questions restructuring plan to avoid Tata Sons listing

Noel Tata wants the Tata Sons board to reconsider a plan about the company’s future.

The plan would combine Tata Sons with two Tata group companies.

This could give Tata Sons its own business activities and income.

It might also help the company avoid being treated as a certain type of financial company.

The Reserve Bank of India currently classifies Tata Sons as an upper-layer NBFC.

Tata Sons was given three years to list its shares.

Noel Tata hopes the regulator will change that decision.

He worries that listing could make investors focus more on profits than on the charitable goals of Tata Trusts.

Tata Trusts owns 66 percent of Tata Sons.
