Sugar Stock Tightens, Production Increase Expected
India's sugar supply is becoming tighter.
Although the government is allocating sugar for sale, the remaining supply is less than last year.
The country is facing a sugar shortage that may affect the upcoming festive season, leading to some challenges to meet demand.
Production is expected to increase in the next season according to the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association.
However, the actual supply may depend on sugarcane yields and production capacity.
Sugar stocks held by mills on July 31st were 90.58 lakh tonnes.
The government allocated 22.5 lakh tonnes of sugar for August domestic sales.
Closing stock at the end of August may be around 68 lakh tonnes.
ISMA projects an 18% increase in sugar production for the 2025-26 season.
Industry officials anticipate higher production due to better sugarcane yield.
