Centre Defers Limestone Mine Clearance Near Great Indian Bustard Habitat
The government has paused approval for a limestone mine in Rajasthan.
The mine would be near an important home for the Great Indian Bustard.
This bird is critically endangered, and only about 130 are thought to live in the wild in India.
A government expert group wants the company to change its mining plan.
The plan must match the amount of mining that has already been approved.
The group also wants a safety plan for blasting.
Blasting could affect gas and water pipelines nearby.
The mine site is reported to be about 1.77 kilometers from the bustard priority area.
The Centre has deferred environmental clearance for a proposed limestone mine near Ramgarh in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer.
The mine is being proposed by Dalmia Bharat Green Vision Limited.
