Calcutta HC to Hear Pleas on WBSSC Teacher Recruitment Anomalies
Imagine teachers are being hired for high school jobs in West Bengal.
The school service commission released a list of people who got an interview.
But some people are upset and have gone to court.
They say that people who were already in trouble for cheating in a past hiring process are now being interviewed again.
They also say that some rules about giving extra points for experience were not followed fairly.
Even some people who did very well on the test but have never taught before didn't get an interview call.
The court will look into these problems soon.
The school commission says they followed all the rules for picking people for interviews based on tests and experience.
Calcutta High Court to hear petitions alleging anomalies in WBSSC's interview list for assistant teachers.
Petitioners claim 'tainted' candidates from the 2016 recruitment process have been included in the 2025 interview list.
Allegations include unfair awarding of marks for teaching experience and exclusion of high-scoring first-time examinees.
WBSSC states the interview list was prepared based on written test, academic scores, and teaching experience.
Document verification for shortlisted candidates is expected to begin around November 18.

Inclusion of 'Tainted' Candidates
Petitioners/Aggrieved Candidates
Petitioners allege that candidates previously deemed 'tainted' by the Supreme Court in the 2016 recruitment process have been allowed to sit for the 2025 exam and included in the interview list. They claim some candidates listed were born in 1997, questioning their purported teaching experience.
West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC)
The WBSSC maintains that the interview list was prepared based on merit criteria, including written test scores, academic scores, and teaching experience. An official stated that the list includes 'untainted' candidates and that the process aims for transparency.
Discrepancies in Marks Awarded
Petitioners/Aggrieved Candidates
Allegations include primary teachers and Health Department employees receiving marks for teaching experience, and a specific petitioner being denied marks for experience despite being a part-time teacher whose colleagues received them.
West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC)
The WBSSC stated that the interview list was based on the written test (60 marks), academic scores (10 marks), and teaching experience (10 marks) for in-service teachers. The public disclosure of scores is intended to ensure transparency.
Protest by First-Time Examinees
Petitioners/Aggrieved Candidates
First-time examinees, despite allegedly scoring full marks, did not receive interview calls. They protested and were stopped by police near Bikash Bhawan.
West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC)
Police facilitated the protest by requesting a small deputation team, while enforcing restrictions on the number of people near Bikash Bhawan due to security measures.
