Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) Offers Legal Tax Benefits
In India, families can use a special tax rule called Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) to save money on taxes.
This rule lets a family have a second tax identity, which means they can earn more money without paying extra taxes.
The HUF can earn money, own things, and get tax benefits just like an individual.
For example, if a family earns 8 lakh rupees, they can split it so that 4 lakh rupees are taxed under the individual and 4 lakh rupees under the HUF, both of which can be tax-free.
To set up an HUF, families need to make a declaration, choose a manager (Karta), list all members, get a separate tax ID (PAN), and open a bank account.
This helps families save taxes and invest more money for the future.
HUF is a legal tax entity recognized under the Income Tax Act, allowing families to have a second tax identity.
Income can be split between the individual and HUF, doubling the tax-free limit up to Rs 4 lakh under the new tax regime.
HUF can earn income, own assets, and claim deductions under sections such as 80C and 80D.
Setting up an HUF requires a declaration, identification of the Karta, listing of members, a separate PAN, and a bank account.
Families with investments, rental income, ancestral assets, or long-term wealth plans benefit the most from using the HUF structure.
