Carney Tells Trump to Stop Memes as Trade Fight Escalates

Canada and the United States are arguing about trade rules and tariffs.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said talks could restart if the United States negotiated seriously.

He said some American proposals could badly hurt Canadian industries.

Carney also criticized jokes and social-media posts from U.S. officials about Canada.

One post showed two Canadian female cadets, and the Pentagon defended it.

President Donald Trump has also talked about renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America” and making Canada the 51st state.

The United States placed high tariffs on some Canadian goods, and Canada plans tariffs on American products.

Recent election victories strengthened Carney’s position in Canada’s Parliament.
