UDP urges Meghalaya government to release arrested KSU leaders

A student group called the Khasi Students’ Union held a rally in Shillong.

The rally became violent, with stone-pelting, clashes and damage to vehicles and public property.

Police arrested three senior leaders of the group.

A court sent them to jail for 14 days while the case continues.

The United Democratic Party’s youth wing said the leaders should be released.

It also said the government should talk with the student group to calm the situation.

The group criticised police actions at the student union’s office.

It warned that tensions could spread between people in Meghalaya and Assam.
