Supreme Court Directs ECI on Tamil Nadu Voter List Revision
The Supreme Court told the Election Commission to be open and fair when updating voter lists in Tamil Nadu.
They said the names of people who might be removed from the list should be shown in public places.
These people will have 10 days to show documents to prove they should stay on the list.
The court also told the police to make sure there are no problems during this process.
This is similar to what the court said for West Bengal earlier.
Some people think the voter list changes are being done to help a certain political party, but the Election Commission and the party say this is not true.
The court also heard arguments about whether the way the voter list is being updated is fair, but they have not decided yet.
Supreme Court directs ECI to publish the 'logical discrepancy' list in Tamil Nadu, allowing 10 days for affected individuals to submit documents.
Court orders deployment of adequate personnel and police presence to ensure smooth conduct of the SIR process.
Approximately 1.16 crore people in Tamil Nadu have been served notices citing 'logical discrepancies' in the voter list.
Similar directions were previously issued for West Bengal and are expected to be followed in other states undergoing SIR.
Opposition parties and activists have raised concerns about the SIR process, alleging manipulation of voter lists, while the ECI and BJP deny these allegations.
