Senators Grill Kash Patel Over FBI Hiring Rule Changes

The FBI changed some rules about who can apply for jobs.

Prostitution and bestiality are no longer automatic reasons to reject an applicant.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the change was meant to help people who were forced into those acts through trafficking or abuse.

He said victims should not be punished when they apply for FBI jobs.

Conduct that happened before someone turned 18 can now be reviewed individually.

Senator John Kennedy questioned how the FBI can tell forced conduct from voluntary conduct.

Senator Dick Durbin said the wording may apply more broadly than only to trafficking survivors.

The senators also questioned what the changes could mean for the FBI’s standards and reputation.
