Mumbai Metro 2B Installs First Steel Segment
The Mumbai Metro Line 2B project has reached a big milestone.
The MMRDA has put in place the first large steel piece of a special bridge over a busy railway and highway in Bandra.
This bridge is part of a 23.6 km metro line that will connect different parts of Mumbai.
The bridge is very tall and has special steel parts.
Once finished, this metro line will help people travel faster and easier across the city.
It will also connect to other metro lines and trains.
The project is important but also tricky because it's being built over busy roads and railways without stopping the traffic.
MMRDA installed the first 70-tonne steel segment of the Bandra cable-stayed railway bridge for Mumbai Metro Line 2B.
The bridge is 200 metres long and features a 104-metre main span supported by back spans of 43 and 53 metres.
The project includes 49 composite steel segments and pylons rising 20.1 metres above ground.
Metro Line 2B will improve east-west connectivity and reduce travel time by up to 75%.
The corridor will integrate with four metro lines, the Mumbai Monorail, and both the Western and Central Railway suburban networks.
