Nepal Extends Probe Panel on Gen Z Movement Violence
The Nepal government has given more time, 20 days, to a special group looking into the violence that happened during protests by young people.
These protests were against the then-prime minister K P Sharma Oli.
The group, led by a former judge, was supposed to finish its work by January 22, but it needs more time.
During the protests, many people died, and some groups say the police used too much force.
The group has talked to many people, including the former prime minister and his home minister, to understand what happened.
The home minister said he feels responsible for the deaths but thinks some of the violence was planned.
The Nepal government extended the tenure of the probe panel on Gen Z movement violence by 20 days.
The panel, led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, was initially given a three-month deadline.
At least 19 youths were killed in police firing during protests against the Oli government.
The total death toll from the two days of unrest reached 77 people nationwide.
The commission has recorded statements from around 170 people, including former PM K P Sharma Oli and then home minister Ramesh Lekhak.
