Centre: No Hostel Proposals from Punjab in Two Years
The Indian government hasn't received any requests from Punjab to build hostels for students from Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and Other Backward Classes in the last two years.
A minister shared this news in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
While no funds were given to Punjab for SC or ST hostels, money was provided for OBC hostels in the past.
The government helps build and maintain these hostels through a program, but it doesn't offer extra academic help or coaching for the students living there.
Centre received no hostel proposals from Punjab for SC, ST, and OBC students in the last two years.
The information was provided by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale.
No other proposals from states or union territories are pending under the hostel scheme.
The Centre released funds to OBC students in the financial year 2025-26.
Financial assistance is provided for hostel construction and maintenance under PM-AJAY.
