Weekly HIV Pill Matches Daily Treatment in Phase 3 Trial

Weekly HIV Pill Matches Daily Treatment in Phase 3 Trial

A new HIV pill that is taken once a week was tested in a large clinical trial.

In this study, it worked about as well as medicine taken every day.

The people in the study already had very low levels of HIV.

They had been taking treatment for at least six months.

None had previously experienced treatment failure.

This means the trial mostly looked at people changing from one successful treatment to another.

Experts say the results are encouraging but do not show that the weekly pill will work equally well for everyone with HIV.

More information is needed to understand how it performs in different groups of people.
