India's Smartphone Market Reaches 5-Year High; Apple Sees Record Quarter
Imagine that in India, more people bought smartphones in the last three months than they have in five years!
A big reason is that many people are choosing to buy more expensive, fancy phones.
Apple had its best sales ever in India during this time, selling so many iPhones that they even became the fourth biggest seller in the whole market.
The most popular phone was the iPhone 16, and the new iPhone 17 series also sold really well right from the start.
Other brands like Samsung, OPPO, and OnePlus also did well in the mid-range, but the really cheap phones weren't as popular.
Because everyone wants the fancy phones, the prices for smartphones are going up.
Stores had lots of cheap phones left over, and with parts costing more, companies might make phones even more expensive after the holidays.
This means that for the whole year, fewer phones might be sold overall, even though the sales in the last three months were super high.
India's smartphone market reached a five-year high in Q3 2025, with 48 million units shipped, a 4.3% year-over-year increase.
Apple achieved its strongest quarterly shipments in India, selling 5 million units and ranking fourth in market share for the first time.
The iPhone 16 was the most-shipped smartphone, and the new iPhone 17 series had a record launch, accounting for a significant portion of Apple's sales.
Smartphone Average Selling Prices (ASPs) hit a record $294, driven by strong demand for premium and higher-spec models.
Despite strong premium segment growth, weaker demand for entry-level Android phones and rising component costs may lead to a year-over-year decline in shipments for Q4 2025 and the full year.
