Modi's Maldives Visit: Resetting Ties and Strengthening Cooperation
India and Maldives are trying to be friends again!
The Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, visited the Maldives to celebrate their independence and talk about how the two countries can work together.
They will discuss trade, like possibly making it easier to buy and sell things.
India might also start a new payment system there, like UPI.
Both countries want to work together to stop drug problems in the ocean.
The visit is also a chance to mend ties after some disagreements, and to help each other out, like helping with money when needed.
Prime Minister Modi visited the Maldives on July 25-26 to reset ties and mark the 60th anniversary of independence.
India and Maldives aim to strengthen cooperation in economic and maritime security, including combating drug trafficking.
India is expected to launch UPI services and discuss a free trade agreement with Maldives.
The visit marks Modi's first trip since the new administration took charge in November 2023 and follows the 'India Out' campaign.
Discussions will focus on a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership adopted in October 2024.
