MMC Launches Aerobin Compost Harvest Initiative
The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation in Hyderabad has started a new program called Aerobin Compost Harvest.
This program helps turn wet waste from homes and institutions into compost right where it is produced.
Instead of sending the waste to a big dumping yard, they use special composters called Aerobins.
Each Aerobin can turn 20 kilograms of wet waste into 15 kilograms of compost, which can be used for gardening.
The goal is to reduce the amount of waste sent to the dumping yard and make the city cleaner.
The program is starting with a pilot project and plans to expand to more areas soon.
The MMC also wants to work with coir industries to use discarded tender coconut shells, which will save money and reduce waste.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) launches Aerobin Compost Harvest initiative to process wet waste at the source.
Pilot project started at Parvatapur Integrated Solid Waste Management Park in Peerzadiguda.
Aerobin composters can process 20 kg of wet waste and produce 15 kg of high-quality compost.
MMC aims to reduce the 2,500 metric tonnes of daily waste sent to Jawaharnagar dumping yard.
Initiative aligns with Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 and promotes decentralized waste processing and community participation.
