Rural Demand Drives Auto Sales Growth
Auto sales in India grew a lot in 2025, especially in rural areas.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said that sales went up because of good farming progress and lower taxes on vehicles.
More people bought cars, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles.
The growth was stronger in rural areas than in cities.
Dealers are hopeful that sales will keep growing in the coming months because of festivals and weddings.
However, they are also worried about the rising prices of vehicles and how long it takes to get loans approved.
Auto retail sales in India grew 7.71% YoY in CY25, totaling 2,81,61,228 units.
Rural demand outpaced urban growth, with PV sales in rural areas growing 12.31% compared to 8.08% in urban areas.
GST rate rationalization in September 2025 boosted affordability and lifted sentiment, driving sales in the second half of the year.
December 2025 saw a 14.63% YoY increase in auto retail sales, with PV sales up 26.64% and two-wheeler sales up 9.50%.
Dealer sentiment remains positive, with 74.91% of dealers expecting growth in the January-March quarter.
