Uganda President’s Son Announces 2031 Bid Amid Succession Questions

Muhoozi Kainerugaba is Uganda’s military chief and the son of President Yoweri Museveni.

He says he wants to become president in 2031.

Kainerugaba said his father would support him.

He also predicted that he would win 90% of the vote.

He had planned to run in the previous election but did not.

President Museveni has led Uganda since 1986.

Critics accuse his government of abuses, which the government denies.

Some opposition leaders have fled the country or been imprisoned.
