Eros Sues Rai Over Film Similarities
Eros International Media has sued director Anand L. Rai and others for Rs 84 crore.
They say Rai's new film, Tere Ishq Mein, uses ideas and characters from his older film, Raanjhanaa, without permission.
Eros claims that the new film is being promoted as a sequel to Raanjhanaa, and that some actors play similar roles.
They also say that phrases, music, and footage from Raanjhanaa were used in the new film's promotions.
Eros sent a legal notice to stop these actions, but the film was still released with many similarities.
The case is now in the Bombay High Court.
The film, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, was released in theaters on November 28, 2025, and is set to premiere on Netflix on January 23, 2026.
Eros International Media has filed a lawsuit against Anand L. Rai and others for alleged intellectual property infringement related to the film Tere Ishq Mein.
The lawsuit seeks Rs 84 crore in damages, alleging trademark and copyright infringement, and passing off.
Eros claims that Tere Ishq Mein is promoted as a 'spiritual sequel' to Raanjhanaa without consent.
The lawsuit names several defendants, including Rai, his production company, T-Series, writer Himanshu Sharma, and Netflix India.
Eros alleges that the new film features similar characters and uses unauthorized footage, music, and phrases from Raanjhanaa.
