India-Afghanistan T20 Opener Stays On Amid BRICS Summit
India and Afghanistan are scheduled to play a T20 cricket match in Delhi on September 13.
The game will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
At the same time, Delhi will host the BRICS Summit.
Police were worried because the summit needs many security officers and special traffic arrangements.
They also expected thousands of cricket fans to attend the match.
Police therefore asked whether the game could be moved to another date.
The DDCA met with the police and was told that support and arrangements would be provided.
The DDCA then confirmed that the match will happen as planned.
The first India-Afghanistan T20I will be played on September 13 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The Delhi Traffic Police had requested postponement because of BRICS Summit security and traffic demands.
The summit is scheduled for September 12-13 and is expected to bring foreign delegates, dignitaries and VVIPs to Delhi.
Police cited extensive deployments, VIP route management and an expected cricket crowd of 25,000-35,000 spectators.
After discussions with the DDCA, authorities assured the association of necessary support, and the remaining matches remain scheduled for September 15 and 17.
