IIT Kharagpur, US Firm Partner to Create Tech Hub in Kolkata
A technology company from the US, Santech Global, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur are teaming up in Kolkata to create a center for new tech.
They'll work on making tiny computer chips (semiconductors) and other cool technologies.
This hub will include places for chip design, manufacturing, and testing.
They will also do research using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
It's a big step to make technology better in the Indo-Pacific area.
They plan to have this hub ready by 2028.
This also means more chances for students to study and work together across India and the US.
IIT Kharagpur and Santech Global signed an MoU to support semiconductor tech.
The collaboration includes chip design, fabrication, and AI-driven R&D.
The project will be in Kolkata, with 15 acres of land allocated.
Joint PhD and MS programs will be introduced.
The initiative supports the US-India Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology (TRUST) Initiative.
