Mumbai's SCLR Extension Hitches Days After Opening
Imagine a new bridge in Mumbai that opened recently.
It has special bumps on the road called rumblers to make it safe.
However, these rumblers came off just days after the bridge opened, causing traffic to stop!
The bridge cost a lot of money to build and was meant to help people avoid traffic.
Now, the officials are investigating why this happened and are fining the construction company because of the mistake.
Rumblers on the newly opened Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension in Mumbai came off, causing traffic to stop.
The SCLR extension, including a cable-stayed bridge, opened on August 14th, costing Rs 1,000 crore.
The incident occurred around 1:30 pm, leading to vehicle diversions.
MMRDA officials imposed a Rs 50 lakh penalty on the contractor and Rs 1 lakh on the project management consultant.
The project was delayed from its initial 2019 deadline due to various issues and the cost increased.
