Himachal HC grants bail to ASI Pankaj Sharma in evidence tampering case
Imagine a police officer, ASI Pankaj Sharma, was given a pen drive found with a man named Vimal Negi, who had sadly passed away.
Vimal was an engineer.
The police thought ASI Sharma messed with the pen drive's information instead of giving it straight to investigators.
So, ASI Sharma was arrested.
He asked the big court, the Himachal Pradesh High Court, for permission to be free while the investigation continued.
The investigators, called the CBI, said he shouldn't be let go because they still needed to ask him questions.
But ASI Sharma's lawyer said he had already told them everything.
The judge decided to let ASI Sharma go free for now by giving him bail, meaning he doesn't have to stay in jail while the case is ongoing.
Himachal Pradesh High Court granted bail to Assistant Sub-Inspector Pankaj Sharma.
Sharma was accused of tampering with evidence related to the death of HPPCL engineer Vimal Negi.
Vimal Negi went missing on March 10 and his body was found on March 18 in Bilaspur district.
The CBI arrested Sharma for allegedly hiding and tampering with a pen drive recovered from Negi's body.
The CBI urged the court to deny bail, but the court accepted Sharma's plea after hearing arguments.
