IndiGo Prepares for Pilot Duty Rules
IndiGo Airlines is getting ready for new rules about how long pilots can work.
Last December, when similar rules started, the airline had to cancel many flights, which upset a lot of passengers.
The government fined the airline a lot of money for the problems in December.
Now, IndiGo is trying to fix the problem by hiring more pilots and promoting some to higher positions.
The airline is hoping to keep its current flight schedule until the end of March, but if things don't improve, they might have to change some flights, especially at night.
IndiGo has assured the government that it will have enough pilots to keep flying as usual after the new rules start on February 10, 2026.
The government is closely watching the airline to make sure everything goes smoothly.
IndiGo Airlines is preparing for the reimplementation of flight duty time limitation (FDTL) norms on February 10, 2026.
The airline canceled over 2,500 flights and delayed 1,852 flights in December 2025 due to new regulations, affecting over 3 lakh passengers.
DGCA imposed a ₹22.20 crore penalty on IndiGo for the December 2025 flight cancellations and issued a warning to the CEO.
IndiGo is hiring more pilots and accelerating promotions to cover the shortfall and maintain its current schedule until March 28, 2026.
The DGCA is closely monitoring IndiGo's operations, with particular emphasis on roster integrity, crew availability, buffer adequacy, system robustness, and adherence to FDTL requirements.
