NEET Protests Force Connaught Place Shutdown
Students and activists have been protesting for 34 days over a leaked NEET exam paper.
On July 23, 2026, the government asked all shops and offices in Connaught Place to close by 6:30 pm to prevent any violence.
The government also cut off the internet near the protest site at Jantar Mantar and put security measures around the home of the Home Minister.
The protesters want the Education Minister to resign and for the exam to be held again.
The government has not agreed to these demands and has taken steps to keep the situation under control.
Some opposition leaders support the protesters, but talks between the protesters and the government have not been successful.
Connaught Place in New Delhi was ordered to shut down by 6:30 pm on July 23, 2026, due to ongoing NEET protests.
Internet services were restricted within a 1.5-km radius of Jantar Mantar, the protest site, until midnight.
Protesters, led by the CJP, demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a re-examination due to the NEET paper leak.
The government has imposed security measures and has not agreed to the protesters' demands, leading to a deadlock in talks.
Opposition leaders have shown solidarity with the protesters, condemning the government's actions.
