Goa Fire: Sarpanch, Secretary Dismissed for Negligence
In Goa, the leader of Arpora-Nagoa village, Roshan Redkar, and the village council's secretary, Raghuvir Bagkar, were fired from their jobs.
This happened because they were found to have not done their duties properly.
A nightclub in their village had a big fire that killed 25 people.
The report said that the nightclub was operating without proper approvals, and the village leaders ignored or approved these problems.
The secretary also gave a house number to the nightclub without checking if it had the right documents.
The government said this was a big mistake and a betrayal of the public's trust.
The Goa government dismissed Arpora Village Panchayat Sarpanch Roshan Redkar and Panchayat Secretary Raghuvir Bagkar for persistent negligence in the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire case.
The fire at the nightclub claimed 25 lives and injured several others on December 6.
The Magisterial Inquiry Committee Report found that the Sarpanch ignored or approved irregularities in the nightclub's operations, including lack of proper building plans and licenses.
The Panchayat Secretary was found to have issued a house number without verifying the necessary documents, such as construction licenses and approved plans.
The Directorate of Panchayats termed the actions as a breach of public trust, leading to the dismissal and disqualification of the officials.
