India's 'Boss Scam' Fraudsters Impersonate Executives
A man named Girish Amin, who works as a deputy general manager in a big company, got messages from someone pretending to be his boss.
This fake boss asked Amin to transfer money from the company's account to different bank accounts.
Amin did as told and transferred a lot of money, around Rs 10.40 crore, in many small transactions.
Later, Amin found out that it was not his real boss but fraudsters.
The police caught some of these fraudsters.
The fraudsters used a trick where they pretended to be the boss and asked for money.
They also bought gold to hide the money trail.
The police are trying to get back the stolen money.
Girish Amin, a deputy general manager, was tricked into transferring Rs 10.40 crore in 63 transactions by fraudsters impersonating his boss.
The fraudsters used WhatsApp to send instructions and a malicious .zip file to gain access to Amin's phone.
The stolen money was laundered through the purchase of gold from jewellery shops to hide the digital trail.
Six individuals were arrested in connection with the scam, including those who purchased gold and handled mule accounts.
