Vijayapura Aims for 5 Crore Tree Plantation Goal
Imagine a big city called Vijayapura that wants to become super green!
A special campaign started a few years ago to plant a lot of trees.
They've already planted 1.5 crore trees, which is like planting 15 million little trees!
Now, they want to plant even more, aiming for a total of 5 crore trees by the year 2030.
This is like planting 50 million trees in total!
Planting trees helps make the air cleaner, gives more water to the ground, and makes the weather nicer.
To help everyone remember this goal, they are also having a big race called Vrukhothon on December 7th, where people will run to celebrate how green their city is becoming.
This big tree-planting effort is already making Vijayapura a better place to live.
Vijayapura district aims to plant a total of 5 crore trees by 2030, adding 3.5 crore saplings to the 1.5 crore already planted.
The Koti Vruksha Abhiyana has increased Vijayapura's forest cover from 0.17% in 2016 to 2.4%.
Environmental improvements attributed to the campaign include better air quality, increased water table, improved soil fertility, a 0.5°C drop in average temperature, and increased rainfall.
CSR funds from Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam and free saplings for farmers have supported the initiative, with over 180 plant species cultivated.
A Vrukhothon-2025 marathon is scheduled for December 7 in Vijayapura to promote a 'Clean, Green, and Beautiful Vijayapura'.
