West Bengal Commission Awards Rs 1 Lakh for LPG Cylinder Burn Injuries
A woman in West Bengal was badly burned when a gas cylinder leaked and caught fire while she was cooking.
She told the gas company and the distributor, but they did not fix the problem.
The West Bengal Consumer Commission looked at the case and decided the gas company and the distributor were at fault.
They ordered the company to pay Rs 75,000 and the distributor Rs 25,000, for a total of Rs 1 lakh.
The woman had already spent about Rs 50,000 on treatment and might need more surgery later.
The commission said the gas company must check cylinders regularly to keep people safe.
West Bengal Consumer Commission held Indian Oil Corporation Limited and its LPG distributor liable for a gas cylinder leak that caused burns.
The commission awarded Rs 1 lakh in compensation: Rs 75,000 to IOCL and Rs 25,000 to the distributor.

The complainant suffered 15% burns, spent about Rs 50,000 on treatment, and may need plastic surgery costing up to Rs 2 lakh.
