Tripura Plans Ekalavya Model Schools for Tribal Education
The Tripura government wants to build special schools called Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in all 58 areas of the state.
These schools help tribal kids get good education.
Right now, there are 12 such schools, and 2 more will start by 2026.
The chief minister asked the central government to make it easier to build more of these schools.
Currently, an area needs to have many tribal people to get one of these schools.
The government wants to change this rule so more schools can be built.
Tripura government plans to establish EMRSs in all 58 blocks of the state.
Currently, 12 EMRSs are functioning, with 2 more to be operational by March 2026.
The Centre has sanctioned 21 EMRSs for Tripura since 2018.
CM Manik Saha requested relaxation in guidelines for setting up EMRSs.
Existing norms require a block to have at least 50% tribal population and a minimum of 20,000 tribal people to qualify for an EMRS.
