Hayli Gubbi Volcano Erupts in Ethiopia
A volcano in Ethiopia called Hayli Gubbi erupted for the first time in nearly 12,000 years.
It sent big clouds of ash very high into the sky, reaching up to 14 kilometers.
The area where it happened is very far away, and almost no one lives there, so no one got hurt.
The ash cloud moved from Ethiopia to other countries like Yemen, Oman, and then towards India.
In India, the ash cloud caused some problems for airplanes, and some flights were cancelled.
Scientists say the ash cloud will not affect the air quality on the ground but will stay high in the sky.
The ash cloud is expected to move away from India by the evening of November 25, 2025.
People in areas where the ash cloud is passing are advised to stay indoors, wear masks, and follow safety guidelines.
Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia erupted on November 23, 2025, after nearly 12,000 years of inactivity.
The eruption sent ash clouds up to 14 kilometers high, drifting towards southwestern Arabia and then towards India.
The volcano is located in the remote Danakil Desert, 15 kilometers southeast of the Erta Ale volcano.
No injuries or property damage were reported due to the remoteness of the area, but the nearby village of Afdera was evacuated.
The ash cloud reached high altitudes, affecting air travel in the Middle East and India, leading to flight cancellations and advisories.
