HC declines interim relief in DIG Bhullar’s plea
The Punjab and Haryana High Court refused to temporarily stop the CBI's cases against a suspended police officer, DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar.
Bhullar's lawyers argued that the CBI doesn't have the right to investigate him because Punjab had withdrawn its general consent.
The court said that deciding this issue now would be like making a final decision, and it's not urgent.
They also mentioned that Bhullar can still ask for bail.
The court will hear the main case in January, when they will decide if the CBI can investigate offenses in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Punjab and Haryana High Court declined to stay CBI proceedings against DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar.
Court noted that interim relief would effectively grant final relief at this stage.
Bhullar's lawyers argued that the CBI lacks jurisdiction due to lack of consent under the DSPE Act.
Court stated that the federalism question would not be affected by delaying the hearing.
Matter listed for the second week of January for further arguments.
