India's Rice Procurement Reaches 53 Million Tonnes
India bought a lot of rice to have enough for everyone!
They bought over 53 million tonnes of rice, a bit more than last year.
They need about 41 million tonnes for things like food programs, but already have more than they need.
Because of that, they are selling some rice to companies that make fuel from it.
India's rice procurement reached 53.11 million tonnes by June 2025, a 1% increase year-on-year.
Procurement includes over 6.8 million tonnes from the rabi crop.
Annual requirement under various schemes is about 41.0 million tonnes, and buffer norm is 13.5 million tonnes.
The government is liquidating surplus rice stocks through sales to ethanol distilleries.
