Maharashtra Tightens Rules on Government Consultant Hiring
The Maharashtra IT Department is changing the rules for hiring consultants in government.
They noticed some consultants were being paid too much by working for multiple departments at once.
The IT minister, Ashish Shelar, is now requiring all departments to report details of their consultants to the IT Department.
A new system will be created so the government can track who the consultants are, what they do, and how much they are paid to make sure the money is being spent fairly.
The IT Department will amend the existing Government Resolution (GR).
All departments must disclose the type of services and works undertaken by consulting agencies.
Details of every consultant appointed in Mantralaya must be submitted to the IT Department.
Concerns exist over consultants' lack of accountability.
A dedicated centralized portal will be created for all consultancy services.
