Ahmedabad Lakes: Government Buildings Occupy Lake Lands
Imagine the city of Ahmedabad has many lakes, like big ponds.
The city government wanted to fix them up.
But, they found out that some government buildings, like police stations and warehouses, were built on the lake land long ago.
The government is now figuring out how to manage these lakes.
The officials say that when the buildings were built, they didn't think as much about keeping the lakes healthy.
Now, they have to sort out who owns the land and how to take care of the lakes while making sure everyone has what they need.
Government buildings have been built on approximately 10 lakes in Ahmedabad.
The collector's office acknowledged the situation, rejecting some AMC applications for lake possession.
Bibi Talav in Vatva houses a police post built on lake land.
A Ranip lake now has an electronic voting machine warehouse.
