Court Dismisses Plea on Police Action at CJP Protest
A group of protesters, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to demand the resignation of the Education Minister and to raise concerns about irregularities in major examinations.
The protest started on June 28 and remained peaceful until July 18, when the police used force to disperse the crowd.
The protesters claimed that the police used excessive force, causing injuries and disrupting their peaceful protest.
They filed a plea in the Supreme Court, asking for an independent inquiry into the police action.
However, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea, stating that it did not want to watch videos of the incident.
The Delhi High Court also refused to urgently list the petition, scheduling it for a hearing on Wednesday.
The protesters and their supporters argue that the police action was a violation of their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and dissent.
The court and the police maintain that the protest was managed according to standard procedures.
