FIFA Opens Disciplinary Proceedings Over Argentina Banner and Final Brawl
FIFA is the group that runs world soccer.
After Argentina beat England in the semi‑final, some Argentine players held up a banner that said the Falkland Islands belong to Argentina.
FIFA said that is not allowed.
Later, after Argentina lost to Spain in the final, a fight broke out on the field.
Several Argentine players and a Spanish player were accused of fighting and other bad behaviour.
FIFA is now looking into all of this and will decide what to do.
FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association and several Argentina players for alleged breaches during the 2026 World Cup.
The proceedings stem from a banner reading "Las Malvinas son Argentinas" displayed after Argentina's semi‑final win over England.
Additional charges include discriminatory chants, late kick‑offs, security failures, and objects thrown by spectators.
After the final, a brawl erupted; Leandro Paredes faces three assault counts, Nahuel Molina two, Thiago Almada one unsporting behaviour, and Spain's Gavi one unsporting behaviour.
FIFA has given all parties an opportunity to present their case before a final decision is issued.
