Codava Group Marks 240 Years of Devattparamb Massacre

The Codava National Council (CNC) recently marked the 240th anniversary of the Devattparamb Massacre, which happened on December 12, 1785.

During this event, the CNC remembered the thousands of Kodava people who were killed or affected by the massacre, which was carried out by Tipu Sultan.

The CNC believes that this event was a genocide and wants the Indian government and international bodies to officially recognize it as such.

They also want to protect the Codava culture and language, which they say have been weakened over time.

The CNC holds this annual observance to keep the memory of the massacre alive and to push for historical justice.

They argue that acknowledging the suffering of the Kodava people is important for the community to heal and move forward.
