Pune Launches 14-Day Leprosy Detection Drive
Imagine a doctor coming to your house to check for a specific sickness called leprosy.
In Pune, a big group of doctors and health workers are doing just that for two weeks.
They will visit many homes to look for early signs like strange spots on the skin or if your skin feels numb.
If they find something, they will help people get more tests and free medicine.
They want everyone to know that leprosy is just a sickness, not something to be ashamed of, and that finding it early helps a lot.
By working together, they hope to make Pune a city where no one has leprosy.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) launched a 14-day Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) from November 17 to December 2, 2025.
The campaign aims to screen 5.25 lakh citizens through door-to-door visits by 250 teams.
Screening will focus on early symptoms such as skin patches, loss of sensation, and tingling.
Health officials urge citizens to cooperate and shed misconceptions, emphasizing that leprosy is a disease, not a stigma.
Suspected patients will be guided to further tests, and free treatment is available for those diagnosed.
